Aussie opener Usman Khawaja is not worried about David Warner’s return in the squad. Usman Khawaja believes that better performer will survive in any position of the line-up.
Usman Khawaja is in the squad after a couple of years
As Usman Khawaja has recalled in the squad after two years around in the recent India series and the continuous Pakistan series as well. But his recent form will create sweet suffering to the selectors for the opening position with David Warner’s return. Look at his recent performance. Accordingly, two centuries and 3 fifties with an 88 and 91 runs inning made it more valuable to consider for the team.
Though Usman Khawaja is happy for his recent performance for the sake of u coming World Cup-19 he wants to focus to the rest three matches against Pakistan, “it’s [World Cup] a long way away. For me, it’s [about] the next three games. [Warner’s return] is not something I’ve thought about at all. I’m just enjoying playing one-day cricket.”
Accordingly, Australia is doing wonderfully in the recent matches, beating India in India by 3-2 and leading by 2-0 against Pakistan. Surely, Usman Khawaja has well contribution there. Scoring couple of centuries in India and scoring a fifty in UAE. So Usman Khawaja is happy with his team performance, especially, the captain Aron Finch is hitting well.
“Finchy [hits] a lot straighter, hits the ball hard, and I sort of work it [around]. I think we just complement each other. In Sharjah, we talked a lot just about the game situation, keeping each other calm. I guess at the start, I got off to a quick start when he [Finch] was sort of struggling to find the rhythm early on, so I was going a bit harder.
Admiring Captain Aron Finch
Admiring Captain Aron Finch for rhythmic body language, “Once we got out of the Powerplay, the spinner came on with the wind. He took him on and hit him for a six, and you could just see him find his rhythm again. When he started finding his rhythm, I was just happy to give him a strike. When Finchy is going, just let him go.”
Memorizing the last tour in India, the opener admired the captain, “I think he was batting well last tour too. He got a 90 and we got a couple of starts and he was looking good. But it’s obviously nice to get that 100 done. It’s nice to see him be himself again. Nice to see him being the same old Finch.”
Aussie opener can’t relax for the sake of World Cup-19 preparation, “We saw in India they were 2-0 up and we came back to win that series. It’s never quite over. We can’t take it easy now, we’ve got to finish it off that next game. We can’t relax, we can’t think that we’ve done all the hard work and that we’re fine now. There’s still three games left and three games is a long time in cricket.”
And conclude with, “We want to be really clinical and we’ve got to keep doing it over and over again. Winning’s a habit, so hopefully, we can make it a habit”
Therefore, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja is not worried about David Warner’s return in the squad. Hope the left-hander opener will perform well for the sake of upcoming World Cup-19.
