Team Bangladesh for the upcoming World Cup. Due to the absence of Shakib Al Hassan, another left-hander Mominul Haque got an opportunity to be in the team but Shakib Al Hassan regained his position as well. Accordingly, Tamim Iqbal is the automatic selection then BCB has to keep the faith on the Liton Das or Soumya Sarker again.

Liton Das can also in as a wicketkeeper-batsman and struggled in the New Zealand ODIs, though ending up with three consecutive scores of one. His batting average of 19.53 after 27 matches has meant Bangladesh have often struggled to get a start from their openers. However, the selectors have chosen this right-hander batsman over Imrul Kayes, who has the experience of featuring in previous World Cups.

On the other hand, selectors haven’t made any significant changes to the middle-order with both Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman are in the 15-man squad. Mohammad Mithun’s recent batting form earned him a position for maiden World Cup. Mohammad Saifuddin and Mehidy Hasan also have received their maiden World Cup call too. Both of them bring balance to the side with their all-around skills.

Another surprising position is for Mosaddek Hossain, who is comfortable with off-spin with right-hand batting in the finishing point. So chief selector Minhazul Abedin repeated the words about Mosaddek Hossain, “Mossadek did well in (recent) domestic tournaments. We want an all-rounder who can bowl off-spin. Mahmudullah has a shoulder injury, so he may not bowl over there (in the World Cup). As a back-up spin all-rounder, we included Mossadeq.”

How strong their bowling attack is

To the question of how strong their bowling attack is we need to look at the bowlers’ list first. The leader Captain Mashrafe Mortaza is going to lead this section for the fourth time in the world Cup and likely to for the last time. The captain has Mustafizur Rahman despite his injured ankle, Abu Jayed and Taskin Ahmed will company the captain of course.

Minhazul Abedin talked about the bowlers too, “Taskin played his last ODI in October 2017 and it was a long break for him. When we thought about him again for the New Zealand series he sustained an injury once again. According to the reports we have, he is not fit. He represented (his domestic team) in one match but his fitness is still not up to the mark.”
