New Zealand win by 45 runs in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on the first ODI of the three-match series. Guptill scored 138 for New Zealand and Kusal Perera 102 for Sri Lanka.
As Sri Lanka lost the test series and they continued the flow to the ODI too. Winning the toss two openers started an aggressive inning. Though Colin Munro backed to the pavilion at 14 runs gently Guptill made a partnership of 163 runs with Kane Williamson and destroyed the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Guptill made 86 runs partnership with Ross Taylor (54 from 37 balls).
But the score rises on the 49th over. James Neesham picked 34 runs on Thsisara Perara’s delivery. He scored 47 runs from 13 balls. Then New Zealand reached a safe score of 371 costs 7 wickets.
Team Sri Lanka had a wonderful starting too. Two openers Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka batted as the need for this huge target. Their partnership broke at 119 runs. Danushka Gunathilaka backed to the pavilion by Neesham. But Dickwella followed the path at 76 runs too. But Kusal Perera played a classic cricket. He scored 102 runs from 86 balls before getting caught to Seifert and Boults delivery. But none of the batsmen had the comfort to the other end. Sri Lanka ended at 326 runs.
Neesham picked three wickets. Each Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi had two wickets for New Zealand. Martin Guptill won the man of the match title.
Finally, New Zealand win by 45 runs and leading the series to 1-0. Hope Sri Lanka will come back in the second match on the 5th January at the same venue.
