Mahmudullad and Soumya Sarker couldn’t resist the loss against New Zealand on the first test of three-match series in Hamilton. Their 235 runs on the fifth wicket partnership were not enough to rescue from the loss of inning and 52 runs. Kiwi captain Kane Williamson won the man of the match.
Bangladesh on their second inning
The match supposed to impossible to save for Bangladesh according to their recent performance in New Zealand. But Soumya Sarker got 149 runs with 21 fours and 5 sixes. Is Captain Mahmudullah, fed-up on his men?
Is Captain Mahmudullah, fed-up on his men? Accordingly, the performance of the Bangladeshi batsmen in both inning that can be frustrating for any captain. As the bowlers couldn’t resist the Kiwi Batsmen. So it’s not astonishing to that.
“You have to play tough cricket in Tests. There will be good spells from both ends, so one has to understand these things. I think we took the easier options in the first innings and got out. I did it. Mithun did it. Some other batsmen also got out in the same fashion. I wanted to work harder in the second innings, even if I got hit on the body, I want to give myself a chance.
The captain explained as well, “ I got out trying to pull the ball casually in the first innings. I thought that if I take a bit of time (the second time), they may get tired and then I take my chances. I tried to be patient when they were mixing the bouncers with yorkers last evening.”
Bangladeshi captain admired the opponent bowlers too, “ The bowlers tried hard. They tried bowling bouncers and also fuller lengths to swing the ball. They were positive and aggressive, which I wanted as a captain.”
Mahmudullah didn’t forget to admire the Kiwi batsmen, “ If they show the same attitude and bowl more consistently in Wellington, they are likely to get better results. But I think New Zealand batted really well. Kane Williamson, [Jeet] Raval and [Tom] Latham played really well.”
Finally, Bangladeshi captain explained the trouble of the Bangladeshi opener, Tamim Iqbal, as well, “ When [Neil] Wagner was bowling bouncers at Tamim from around the wicket, he survived that period. I liked that from him because he is our best player of pull and hooks shots. It is something that I myself and others should also follow,”
Therefore, Mahmudullad and Soumya Sarker couldn’t resist the loss. As team Bangladesh got a couple of shortage in the first test. Firstly, their first inning was a total disaster. Secondly, bowlers couldn’t tie up the opponents’ batting.
