Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes rested on the t-20 against Windies. The decision came for the upcoming World Cup-19, then test series against Australia.
England declared an at-20 squad
England declared t-20 squad for three-match series on WIndies tour, starting at St Lucia on the 5th of March. As both Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are not in the squad, fly for home after the 5th ODI. As England is leading the ODI series by 1-0.
On the absence of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, Kent’s Sam Billings and Middlesex’s Dawid Malan become the replacements, their return to the team after Trans-Tasman Tri-series against Australia and New Zealand.
As right-hander batsman Sam Billings couldn’t spread his bat in t-20, has only a fifty from 18 matches with 13.06 average. On the other hand, Dawid Malan has wonderful statistics of 5 matches with 4 fifties and 50 average. Hope both will utilize the opportunity as well.
Ed Smith. the selector clarifies the issue
Ed Smith, the selector clarifies the issue, “ I have not favored franchise cricket over international cricket. The contracts that Jos and Ben had with their franchises pre-date my involvement. There were a set of obligations in place and, with a busy year coming up, I’ve accepted the strong recommendations of the head coach to rest these guys now.”
Praising at Sam Billing
Praising at Sam Billing, “Sam is a very talented cricketer who hits the ball as hard as anyone. But he’s been in a position where he’s been picked up by franchises but then not always been playing. And he’s been in England squads but not always been playing.”
Happy with Dawid Malan
English selector is happy with Dawid Malan too, “Dawid would love an England career across all three formats. It’s just a question of where the opportunities come and, when he has played T20, he has grabbed his chances.”
Believing in Joe Root
Believing in Joe Root, the selector said, “Joe is an absolutely critical asset for English cricket in the very big 2019 summer. His form and preparation are essential for England, so we did discuss resting him. But he is very keen to play in these games. He feels playing in the white-ball sides offers a different experience to captaining the Test side and he likes that blend.”
